It is almost 4 weeks since anything was added to this blog or the web pages. In that time there have been visits to schools in Aberdeenshire and Moray to learn about the science trialling; subject meetings in Aberdeenshire and Moray; a seminar day in Aberdeen to learn about and discuss optiions for Secondary curricular design; a seminar day in Aberdeen on Primary planning; and the long awaited papers on A framework for Leaning and Teaching (Building the Curriculum 3) and the Consultation on the next generation of National Qualifications have been published. More about those issues later.
The feedback period for the science outcomes closes on June 30th. Your feedback is important. If you haven’t already done so, please provide feedback via the online questionnaire. This is major change, you have an opportunity to inform the process, you have a duty to be involved. Will it make a difference? We have to believe it will. The very fact that it has seemed as if ‘the system’ has been unable to hear concerns for many, many months is all the more reason to use you voice.
There is reason to believe that teacher views will be heard.
- The feedback will be independently analysed and reported upon by the University of Glasgow – the process is public.
- The latest Government newsletter contains the following comment: We will be providing information on changes to each set of outcomes from September, starting with science where we know there is a lot to do, and will be publishing the final curriculum guidance early in 2009.
I read two important messages into that statement, which are: firstly we will be informed of the thrust of any proposed changes as soon as possible and before the changes are implemented, and secondly that it is recognised that there is work to be done in science. Those involved with trialling across the North East have welcomed the flexibility that has ben offered. Let’s help those tasked to implement any changes as much as we can by being as clear as possible about nature and type of additional clarification that we seek.
